The Giants have faced a plethora of injuries in recent weeks, with receivers Kadarius Toney, Sterling Shepard and Wan’Dale Robinson all out, Daniel Jones nursing an ankle injury and Leonard Williams out on the defensive side.
They nearly lost Saquon Barkley as well when he went to the locker room with an apparent shoulder injury with Big Blue trying to finish off a comeback against the Packers on Sunday, but even with all of the bumps and bruises, the Giants were able to pull off an improbable win to move to 4-1 on the season.
If you ask those who were part of the last Giants regime, they’re convinced the team wouldn’t have responded to those injuries like they have this season.
“This is my fourth year now with the Giants and in years past when guys go down, that's when we really struggle,” Julian Love said. “But, this team is different. the guys who step up and fill in those positions, you see guys stepping up and making big plays.
“Guys are ready. Guys are resilient and know what it takes to win. That’s what good teams do. The best teams in the league aren’t staying the least injured, they’re not staying the most healthy, but they have guys that step up and make plays when their time is called, and that’s what we have with this team.”
Barkley did come back at just the right time, busting out a 40-yard gain before pounding in a 2-yard touchdown run for the go-ahead score, and the Giants were able to overcome their extensive injury list, a second-half deficit, and plenty of skeptics, to continue their surprising start to the season.
“There’s no excuses in there NFL,” Brian Daboll said. “Everybody goes through it….if you can’t get through it, you probably don’t belong in the National Football League.”
