New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is officially in NFL concussion protocol after being carted off the field in the second quarter of the Giants' 44-20 loss in Dallas Sunday.
The Giants saw starting running back Saquon Barkley carted off and ruled out of the game with an ankle injury in the first quarter, and late in the second, Jones had to be carted away after colliding head-to-head with Cowboys defender Jabril Cox, who tackled the quarterback inside the five-yard line as he scrambled on a bootleg.
As Jones got up, he appeared woozy, then stumbled and had to catch himself before trainers came out to evaluate him.
Mike Glennon came in relief of Jones and handed the ball off to Devontae Booker, who punched it in for a touchdown to tie the game - a score FOX missed due to a commercial break from the Jones injury.
Wide receiver Kenny Golladay, who himself left the game after halftime due to a knee injury, told reporters that Jones was "in good spirits" in the locker room after the game, but he will need to be cleared by both team doctors and an independent neurologist before he can return. However, the Giants were hopeful Jones could return to New York with the team, head coach Joe Judge saying he had received "no notice" Jones would not be cleared to fly back with the squad.
"Where my vantage point was, I was blocked by some of the players, so I got more of word in my ear in terms of what he was," Judge said. "I checked on him as soon as we came in and saw where he was. You don't want any player hurt in any capacity, and you always think about the player and their well-being first."
Glennon, who had not yet taken a regular-season snap with the Giants prior to entering the game, finished 16 of 25 for 196 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions.
