The newest Islander told reporters on Monday that he found out he had been traded to New York while on vacation with his family, where he still is right now, enjoying the All-Star break.

“We took the kids to Disney. We’re just at Disneyland right now, and I got the call today,” Horvat said. “It’s been such a whirlwind and such a hectic afternoon, but in a good way. We’re all really excited.”

Finding out you have been traded while relaxing on vacation may not have been the ideal time, but now, the All-Star looks forward to a change of scenery when he gets back from his family trip, now being put on an Islanders team with playoff hopes and a clear need for Horvat’s ability to put the puck in the net. Finding out while on vacation, and during the break, also gives Horvat more time to settle in before making his Islander debut.

“It’s definitely gonna be easier, maybe not mid-vacation with my family right now heading into the All-Star Game,” Horvat said. “But I think it’s gonna give us time to get settled and get with the guys right away and learn the systems and get with the team, sooner than later, so I can get acquainted and get the ball rolling right away and hit the ground running.”
