Gio: Jets 'at minimum' have to make AFC title game after Aaron Rodgers trade

The long-awaited Aaron Rodgers trade has been secured, and now, the attention turns toward where the Jets stand as far as the upcoming season is concerned.

For Gio, it means Gang Green, at minimum, needs to get back to the AFC title game for the first time in over a decade.

“To me, the minimum now that is acceptable for the Jets right now is an appearance in the AFC Championship,” Gio said. “That is the minimum. They gotta get to that game.

“I understand the AFC is stacked. Every single year there are surprising teams both up and down, maybe one of those good teams in the AFC has a down year, I don’t know. You got to. This is win now.”

New York will certainly have big-time competition to get there, as the Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champions and still have Patrick Mahomes, while the Bengals, Chargers, and Bills will all be considered contenders with star power at the quarterback position. But the Jets now have a future Hall of Famer to complement their young talent, and that means expectations are high.

“The team has had the longest playoff drought in sports,” Gio said. “You’ve got to at least get to that AFC title game and give yourself a shot to get to the Super Bowl.”
