The Jets have locked up their promising defensive end John Franklin-Myers for the long haul, agreeing to a four-year, $55 million contract extension after logging three sacks, already matching a career-high, in just four games.
For the Jets and head coach Robert Saleh, the move was a no-brainer.

“Man, he could really take off,” Saleh said. “We felt like he would be a great fit for our system, what we ask out of our defensive line. He has done nothing but work, work, work. He’s been a tremendous leader, and then you see his play on the football field. He’s absolutely dominant at times.”
The 25-year-old was claimed off waivers in 2019 from the Rams and has been paying off for New York this season, also adding a forced fumble to his season stat sheet to help him earn $30 million in guaranteed money with his new deal. Franklin-Myers, who was previously in the final year of his rookie contract, is now locked up by New York through 2025.

“He hasn’t even scratched the surface of where we think he can go within the system,” Saleh said. “When you have guys who do things the right way, who are leaders in the locker room and produce to his level, credit to Joe [Douglas] for finding him off the waiver wire…those are the guys we want to pay.”
The former fourth-round pick has Super Bowl experience through his time with Los Angeles, which the Jets hope he can experience again in New York. He should now have at least four more years to try and accomplish that goal.
“JFM is deserving of it,” Saleh said. “We couldn’t be happier to have it done.”
