Zach Wilson was told to take the rest of the season and reset, and while the Jets continue to voice their support in the young quarterback, the window is open for the team to bring in another option after two straight years of disappointment.

For Wilson, he can only focus on proving himself to the team that thought the world of him when they drafted him No. 2 overall, even if they bring in a veteran to potentially make the new starter to go alongside a team that appears ready to compete outside of the quarterback position.

“It’s out of my control,” Wilson told reporters on Monday. “For me, it’s the same mindset: It doesn't matter, because whether I go in as the 1, the 2, the 3, I'm going to work to prove that I should be. That’s gonna be the mindset. I’m gonna go in there and approach and attack every day like I deserve to be.”

And if the Jets indeed bring in a veteran to potentially compete for the starting job?

“I'm going to make that dude's life hell in practice every day,” Wilson said. “I’m gonna go out there and do my best to show the coaches that I deserve to be there. it’s not in a negative way, it’s a positive way. It’s making everybody else better, hopefully.”

Even if the Jets begin to sour on Wilson’s chances of being the quarterback they once believed would carry the franchise, Wilson says he will continue to work to prove that Gang Green was right in drafting him.

“I love this franchise and what they've given me,” Wilson said. “I'm going to give everything to the guys that have supported me along the way.”
