Time to reignite the Donovan Mitchell hot stove, as Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that the Knicks and Jazz have “recently re-engaged” in trade talks for the three-time All-Star.
Per Charania, the two sides had “fresh trade conversation” in the past week, which included potential return packages for Mitchell, but there is still “no traction” on a deal with no trade imminent. But it is the resumption of discussions that had stalled out back in July.

Utah still has a high price for Mitchell, a big-time star that the Knicks have coveted since trading for Carmelo Anthony more than a decade ago. The Knicks could be holding out to wait for the asking price to be lowered, but the Jazz could hold tight on their value of Mitchell, as the team is reportedly comfortable with keeping Mitchell into the season, as he has three years left on his contract.
Still, if a deal is made, the Knicks are widely seen as the most likely suitor for Mitchell given their plethora of future first-round draft picks and some intriguing young talent.
