Bradley Beal, should he waive his no-trade clause, would become one of the top stars available to the Knicks in the offseason, and according to The Athletic’s Fred Katz, New York has already made it known that they would have interest.
Per Katz, the Knicks have had Beal on their radar even before he reportedly agreed with the Wizards to seek out a trade partner, and that the team has already let the “necessary people” know that if Beal is available, they would be interested in making a deal.
“The Knicks have thought about Beal for longer than just this week,” Katz said. “According to a league source close to the situation, New York’s front office has already let necessary people know the team would be interested in the former All-NBA guard if he were to become available.”
Of course, Beal’s potential and salary cap hit would come with complications. The three-time All-Star signed a five-year deal worth just over $250 million, and will carry a cap hit of nearly $47 million next season. Of course, the salary cap will only rise, but Beal also bring a health concern, as he hasn’t played more than 60 games in a season since the 2018-19 campaign. He has only played 90 combined games in the past two seasons.
Over those two seasons, he has averaged 23.2 points and 6.0 assists per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from downtown.
