Boomer & Gio 'pissed off' at Mets explanations for rough stretch

The Mets continue to struggle against bad teams after Tuesday’s loss to the Cubs, which comes days after Francisco Lindor publicly suggested that some teammates may be “hitting the wall” of the home stretch of a long season, and Boomer and Gio want no part of those excuses.

“I don’t want to hear that,” Gio said. “I don’t want to hear anybody hitting a wall. I didn’t like to hear that at all. That, to me, is alarming.”

Boomer wanted no part of it either.

“Are the Braves saying that? Boomer said. “Are the Yankees saying that?”

Boomer also had a problem with Buck Showalter wondering if some of his players are looking ahead to the playoffs with just weeks left in the regular season, and doesn’t want to see these kind of excuses justifying what he saw as a lack of focus in Tuesday’s loss.

“I don’t want to hear, and this kind of pissed me off last night, I do not want to hear that sometimes, late in a season, guys see the finish line,” Boomer said. “Finish line my ass.

“There was really just a lack of awareness last night in a lot of different ways. It does get frustrating when they’re losing…they’re not playing great and losing to bad teams. They have to win tonight. They have to.”
