Carlos Carrasco threw for the first time since shutting down due to elbow soreness, and reported no problems afterward.
“He threw 18 pitches and he felt great,” Mets manager Luis Rojas said in a Zoom call with reporters on Tuesday. “The next step is to throw against live hitters/sim games. We expect that to be on Thursday.”
Carrasco could get in spring games soon if he gets through Thursday’s sim game without any issues, and barring any setbacks, the first-year Mets starter expects to be ready for Opening Day despite his late start to spring training. He was a late arrival to camp for non-injury reasons before feeling elbow soreness.
Carrasco and Rojas said that Carrasco’s elbow tends to feel sore regularly every spring, which dates back to his time with Cleveland.
Brought over in the trade that included Francisco Lindor, Carrasco expects to slot in as the team’s number two starter behind Jacob deGrom.
