Evan: Mets offering Justin Verlander more than Jacob deGrom should 'Piss every Met fan off'

How does Evan Roberts feel about the Mets signing reigning Cy Young winner Justin Verlander to a multi-year deal?

He can’t figure out why they couldn’t have offered that kind of money to their own star in Jacob deGrom.

“Here’s the thing that should piss every Mets fan off…they offered more money to Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer,” Evan said. “They essentially offered them the same amount of years, and they offered less to their guy. Does that not piss one off?! Does that not annoy one?!”

Evan is adamant that the Mets should have shown that kind of financial commitment to deGrom, regardless of his injury history, and was just the latest piece of evidence that deGrom was never truly valued like he should have been.

“The Mets weren’t even in the same galaxy as what Texas offered. They weren’t even close…so of course I’m pissed off at ownership,” Evan said.

“Did Jake want to come back? It doesn’t feel that way, but it doesn’t help - and this is the story of his Mets career, since he got here - the disrespect.
‘Matt Harvey is our ace, now Noah Syndergaard is our ace, let’s pay Max Scherzer $42.5 million but not offer Jacob deGrom that.’ He’s been disrespected from the beginning, he was disrespected at the end, I don’t think the Mets wanted him back, and that pisses me off.”
