Carlos Correa is still not officially a Met, and now, recent reports are indicating that the Twins are back in the race, and New York is growing frustrated with negotiations that could lead the team to walk away.
Are the news leaks a business strategy by Scott Boras’ camp to accelerate negotiations between the Mets and Correa? Possibly. But with each passing day that a new deal isn’t agreed upon, the more worried Gio gets.
“It just seems like there’s a lot of details in this,” Gio said. “You’ve talked about insurance, they’re talking about liability later in his career. The longer this goes on, the more worried I get about all of it. Not just him not being a member of the Mets, but him actually having an injury that is going to make this contract into one of those horrible contracts at the end of his career.
“It’s concerning.”
On the bright side, Gio believes Correa’s top choice is the Mets, which would give him a big payday, a consistent contender under Steve Cohen’s ownership, and the chance to play alongside his close friend in Francisco Lindor.
“He wants to be here, so Cohen is using that as leverage too,” Gio said. “’You really want to go to Minnesota and toil out there forever?’”
