Max Scherzer told reporters on Tuesday that Mets brass revealed to him a plan where they wouldn’t be ready to compete again until 2025, or more likely, 2026.

In addition, he discussed being recruited by Jacob deGrom before waiving his no-trade clause to join the Rangers.

For Gio, it was the kind of behavior that should be saved for the game’s elite, and Scherzer is not that anymore. It was frustrating to the point where Gio declared Scherzer one of his most hated Mets of all time.

“He’s one of my least favorite Mets of all time…I hated this guy’s guts,” Gio said. I can’t stand Max Scherzer. I called Max Scherzer at the beginning of the year Tom Glavine 2.0 and all these Mets fans were like ‘What, are you kidding me? He’s been great for them.’ Now what? Shut up.

“He’s walking around like he’s basically LeBron James at this point, in his prime. Just stop, man. You can’t dictate where you’re going. If I were him, I’d just shut my mouth and pitch, and just be happy that anybody is paying me.”

Joe Benigno isn’t ready to go that far.

“He still doesn’t even come close to my most hated Met ever,” Joe said. “He might be 1, 2, and 3. Kevin McReynolds. He was the sign that Frank Cashen decided to destroy the 1986 championship team.

“He didn’t want to be in New York. He wanted to be duck hinting somewhere. And he traded Kevin Mitchell! Two years ago he was winning the MVP for the Giants!”

With recency bias admittedly playing a part, Gio still holds a lot of animosity towards Scherzer, who he is convinced will get bombed in the playoffs with Texas.

“His first playoff start,” Gio said. “I am betting the house on whoever they’re playing.”
