Max Scherzer is accepting his 10-game suspension after being ejected from Wednesday’s start following a sticky substance check, and BT says it’s a “weak” move by the future Hall of Famer.
BT doesn’t like Scherzer hiding behind the veil of taking the suspension for the good of the team, as Scherzer cited the schedule ahead as being a reason to simply get the 10-game ban out of the way.
“It’s your reputation over team. It’s your reputation over organization,” BT said. “I get it, I respect it, you’re trying to manipulate the off days so you can pitch against the Braves. Everybody is calling you a cheater. The way you fought back on the mound and in the postgame press conference, to the next day, so quickly saying ‘No, I’m good, I’m not going to push forward,’ I think that’s weak.”
Given the way Scherzer so adamantly defended himself on the field and in the clubhouse on Wednesday, BT doesn’t think it’s a very good look that Scherzer suddenly is at peace with being suspended.
“The way he was reacting and swearing on his kids up and down, you figured he was going to fight this and protest this,” BT said. “But he’s not, which to me, is incredibly weak on the part of Max Scherzer.
“Please don’t hide behind the guise of ‘He’s such a team oriented guy.’ Let me tell you something: in life, you control one thing, and that’s your reputation…you are given one chance to keep a fairly pristine reputation in life, and when somebody soils it, and you don’t challenge it, that’s on you, and that’s weak by Scherzer.”
