The Mets have officially announced their coaching staff for the 2022 season, and it includes more ties from manager Buck Showalter’s days with the Yankees.

New York officially announced on Friday afternoon that Glenn Sherlock will be the team’s bench coach for his second tenure with the team after serving as the Mets third base coach in 2017 and 2018 before moving over to first base coach in 2019. He was the Yankees catching coach under Showalter in 1992, 1994 and 1995. He moved with Showalter to the Diamondbacks after Showalter was replaced in New York by Joe Torre.

Craig Bjornson was announced as the team’s bullpen coach, and Jeremy Barnes will be the assistant hitting coach. Bjornson has been on two World Series championship teams over the last five years, serving as the Astros bullpen coach in 2017 before taking the same role with the Red Sox in 2018, a position he held through 2020. Barnes has been promoted to his role after working as the team’s director of player initiatives last season, and was with Bjornson in Houston as the Astros minor league hitting coordinator in 2017 and 2018.

Eric Chavez, as previously reported, will be the team’s hitting coach after coming over from a very short stint in the Bronx, where he was hired as an assistant hitting coach for the Yankees before taking a promotion in Queens. The former Yankee worked as an assistant to Mets general manager Billy Eppler while they were with the Yankees and Angels.

Jeremy Hefner, one of the last ties to the previous coaching staff under Luis Rojas, will return for his third season as pitching coach.
