Pete Alonso didn’t win his third straight Home Run Derby on Monday night, but he still further proved himself as an animal worthy of the Polar Bear nickname.

In between rounds as he was trying to defend his title, Alonso was seen on camera doing deadlifts to get ready for his second round matchup with Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez, much to the amazement of baseball Twitter.

It looked like Alonso was deadlifting 135 pounds after taking down Ronald Acuna Jr. in the first round of the Derby, quite the warmup routine, though it was Rodriguez who came out launching bombs in round two, ending Alonso’s quest for a “Three-Pete.”
