In between games of their Saturday doubleheader in Washington, the New York Mets placed center fielder Brandon Nimmo on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain, and called up Travis Blankenhorn from Triple-A Syracuse.

Nimmo left Game 1 in the second inning with right hamstring tightness, after appearing to pull up while rounding the bases on what was Michael Conforto’s inning-ending groundout.

Earlier in the game, after singling in his first at-bat, Nimmo went first to third on Francisco Lindor’s single and slipped coming over the third base bag; he appeared to be okay after stumbling and catching himself before falling, but SNY’s broadcast team wondered if he may have tweaked something on that play that was exacerbated while running in the second.

You can see that slip at the end of the clip below:

The Mets initially called it right hamstring tightness, but manager Luis Rojas said immediately after it was a bit of a strain, and Nimmo was likely headed to the IL.

"It’s a strain in his hamstring. He felt it around third on that play when he was thinking about scoring from second because the second baseman was playing in the outfield," Rojas said. "Immediately he was frustrated. Let’s see the grade of it and how long it takes him to come back."

Rojas was also asked if this could be a season-ending injury, but the skipper was non-committal.

"First things first, let’s see the evaluation. This just happened," Rojas said. "It’s unfortunate right now that he did (get injured) and he may be out for the 10 days or so, but still we’ve got to see how he responds. This is a guy who takes a lot of care of himself. He’s one of the first guys to the field and he’s one of the last guys leaving because of how much he does to keep himself out there on the playing field."
