The Mets reportedly plan to decide on their next manager by the end of this week, and not surprisingly, Buck Showalter is one of the finalists to land the job.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Showalter will be one of the candidates to meet with team owner Steve Cohen after his first round of interviews last week. Showalter, the most experienced candidate of the six who interviewed for the position, has been considered a favorite to be the next Mets manager, though he hasn’t managed since his final season with the Orioles in 2018.

Other candidates that were interviewed, per The Post, include Brad Ausmus, Bob Geren, Joe Espada, Clayton McCullough and Matt Quatraro.

According to Audacy MLB Insider Jon Heyman, the other two finalists are Espada and Quatraro.

Showalter has experience managing in New York from his days with the Yankees, where he led New York out of its postseason drought in 1995, before he was replaced by Joe Torre. He moved on to the Diamondbacks and the Rangers before taking the Orioles job from 2010 to 2018.
