Sal Licata is giving flowers to Billy Eppler on Monday after the Mets GM was able to move Max Scherzer for a prospect in Luisangel Acuna, who immediately becomes the No. 2 prospect in the organization.
“The Max Scherzer trade was a brilliant trade,” Sal said. “Billy Eppler, He’s even better than I thought! How did they get anything for Max Scherzer? They saved $22 million and a top prospect back for a guy that is washed up! He has a 101-win season to his resume, and now this, which is a disaster, we can’t argue that. The fact that he was able to find a taker for Max Scherzer, who we have watched - the Texas Rangers don’t watch New York Mets baseball.
“If they did, they would know deGrom is always hurt…and they traded for Scherzer, who is done. He’s not the Max Scherzer that the Mets thought they were paying.”
Sal’s next point about the Scherzer trade threw BT for a loop, but he stood by his declaration that the trade will go down as one of the best the franchise has ever pulled off.
“This is one of the best trades in the history of the Mets,” Sal said. “And that’s why Billy Eppler should be taking bows.”
