The Mets finally won a series after winning none in June, and Sal Licata says the Mets can build off that momentum and go on a run, even with some tough west coast teams on deck.
“I think they’re going on a run,” Sal said. “They’re too good not to go on some kind of run. June is in the rearview. They got over the hump and actually won a freaking series. Maybe they can start playing some solid baseball, and maybe luck goes their way a little bit.
“I think they’re about to go on a little bit of a run, and maybe start to at least climb the standings in the National League. I don’t know if I can say they would make it interesting just yet, because there’s a lot of teams ahead of them.”
The division is all but out of reach, but even with several teams ahead of them in the Wild Card, Sal believes the Mets are better than several of them, and they have a chance to at least make things interesting.
“They’re eight games back in the Wild Card. That’s very doable,” Sal said. “Eight games, it’s really nothing…the Mets, their focus should be the Phillies. When you start closing the gap on the Phillies, that’s when you start to take them seriously.”
