The MLB lockout appears to be nearing an end as the CBT gap closes between the two sides and an agreement to table international draft issues, with reports surfacing that the season could be starting on April 7.

But some Mets players could be holding up a potential agreement.

According to Audacy MLB insider Jon Heyman, there are “a couple Mets players” that are concerned about the new CBT, which could include a fourth tier of tax penalties that owners wanted to implement in the new CBA.

Per Heyman, “one or two” Mets players are arguing against MLB’s current offer.

New York looked like one of the biggest spenders in the league prior to the lockout, with the eager-to-spend Steve Cohen signing pitcher Max Scherzer to a record deal, while also signing Mark Canha, Eduardo Escobar, and Starling Marte. Cohen also inked Francisco Lindor to a record extension last offseason, and look to be joined by the Dodgers as the only teams that would likely be affected by a fourth CBT tier.
