Sal Licata is calling it: Nets are winning NBA title this season

The Nets are rolling, having won 10 in a row after clipping the Hawks 108-107 on Wednesday night in Atlanta.

After starting the season with a lowly 1-5 record, leading to a change in head coaches, Brooklyn now boasts the second best record in the NBA, and holds the label of the hottest team in the league thanks to their double-digit winning streak.

Kevin Durant is playing like a prime MVP candidate (though this year’s award will likely be a very difficult task given nearly five other worthy candidates), and Kyrie Irving has turned back the clock, shooting 50 percent from the field and scoring 25.8 points per game since returning from his suspension. After all of the bad vibes that surrounded the team just a month ago, Sal Licata says the Nets are now a good bet to win an NBA title this season.

“We said it last week, I think the Nets are gonna win the championship,” Sal said. “Wake me up in the postseason.”

Barring injuries, which have derailed promising Nets teams in recent years past, Brooklyn should cruise into the playoffs, where they would then face likely the Celtics and Bucks as their top competitors to reach the NBA Finals. But after looking like a franchise in disarray and near an all-out rebuild just months ago, Sal says the Nets are now a team destined to win it all.

“They’re gonna win the championship,” Sal said. “I’m convinced.”
