The previously winless Sharks are now on the board after an overtime win against the Rangers on Thursday night.

The score was tied at two apiece heading into the third period, when San Jose turned up the pressure and forced Igor Shesterkin to turn away 16 shots in the final 20 minutes of regulation, double the amount of shots Shesterkin faced in the first two periods combined.

Head coach Gerard Gallant clearly wasn’t happy with how his team performed in the third period before falling with less than a minute to go in overtime, snapping a seven-game winning streak against the Sharks.

“That third period, I have no idea where that came from,” Gallant said. “I have no idea what went wrong. It was just a total collapse. It's embarrassing actually. One guy just standing in front of your net banging in four rebounds. Shesty had to make four saves in that one spot. that doesn’t happen with our team, or with any team in the NHL.

“It wasn’t one line or one player. It was a total collapse of the whole team. That’s what’s disappointing.”

The Blueshirts will look to rebound on Sunday against Columbus at The Garden.
