Great news for anyone in Jersey who has North Carolina making it to the Final Four in their sportsbook bets.
Like in several other states, New Jersey sportsbooks are not allowed to offer wagering in schools in the Garden State, so per David Purdum of ESPN, BetMGM announced Friday night they would pay the second-place team in the East Region as the winner in its futures markets if Saint Peter’s goes to the Final Four.
That means that, while other states and markets could take a bath on Peacocks futures – they were as high as +10000 in some books at the beginning of the tournament – any BetMGM customers who have North Carolina as the East winner are guaranteed some coin tonight, win or lose.

The actual winner of Saint Peter’s vs. North Carolina will face Duke in the Final Four, after the Blue Devils topped Arkansas Saturday night. That would be an intriguing matchup either way, as a Peacocks-Blue Devils battle would come after Jersey City’s own had already knocked off Kentucky, Murray State, Purdue, and UNC, while Carolina-Duke III would be the first-ever showdown between the two regional rivals in the NCAA Tourney, and give Coach K a chance to get to the National Championship Game by knocking off the team who spoiled his final home game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
