Ben Rortvedt’s finger issue has been addressed by surgery, Aaron Boone told reporters on Wednesday, and the Yankee catcher will be shut down from baseball activities for the next month, putting his Opening Day availability in serious doubt.

Rortvedt, who is behind Jose Trevino and Kyle Higashioka on the depth chart, had surgery to address aneurysm in an artery near his left shoulder, which was causing his finger issue. Yankee fans may remember David Cone having surgery to repair an aneurysm in his shoulder in 1996, which was preceded by Cone having issues with feeling in his fingers.

Rortvedt was acquired in the trade that also brought Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa to New York, but injuries kept Rortvedt from making his Yankee debut, and was limited to just 42 games in the minor leagues.
