Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata debuted their new segment in their first-ever show, “The Crown,” which each host gives to one player, coach, team, etc., and explains what they are crowning them as for that day.
On Monday, BT got things started by crowning the Yankees as simply “Not Good Enough” despite their sweep of the hapless Royals.
“It’s time to put the crown atop somebody’s head, and the Yankees are wearing the crown,” BT said. “They’re not good enough. If I had to stencil something on today’s crown, it would be, ‘Not good enough.’
“Who is the leadoff hitter? Who is the left fielder? I don’t know. Who is the catcher? Nobody to write home about.”
Some Yankee fans are feeling more hopeful after three straight wins brought the team to within two games of a playoff spot, while recent injury updates give reason to be optimistic for Aaron Judge, Nestor Cortes, and Jonathan Loaisiga. But BT says, even if the Yankees make the playoffs, they are still worthy of that crown.
“Am I supposed to actually be amped up that I saw Aaron Judge hit four foul balls yesterday?” BT said. “I’m supposed to get on the air…and tell you that I think these Yankees are gonna win a championship? No, they’re not going to.”
