Now that the Yankees have reportedly avoided disaster by locking up Aaron Judge to a nine-year deal, Craig Carton has a question for a certain corner of the Bombers fanbase.

Where is all the hate for Hal Steinbrenner now?

“San Diego got involved…and then the greatest owner in all of sports got on the phone from Italy and said, ‘Aaron Judge, it’s Hal Steinbrenner,’” Craig said. “For all you guys that say, ‘Hal Steinbrenner is cheap! Hal Steinbrenner doesn’t want to spend money!’ Hal Steinbrenner got on the phone from Italy and said ‘Aaron, it’s Hal. Do you want to be a Yankee?’ He called him on it.

“Hal Steinbrenner never blinked. He said to all you Yankees fans that booed him when he walked onto the field to celebrate Paul O’Neill or Derek Jeter or whatever the hell he does when you people boo him, and he said, ‘You got it. Now I’m gonna go back to my villa and eat some ravioli.’”

Brian Cashman sang the praises for Steinbrenner for his involvement in closing the Judge deal, while multiple reports have said that the deal was all but finalized after Steinbrenner called Judge from his vacation in Italy to ask what it would take to keep him in pinstripes, and when Judge said a ninth year on his deal would get it done, Steinbrenner made it happen.

So Craig is making sure there will be equal praise for Steinbrenner today as there was criticisms in recent years when the Yankees didn’t aggressively pursue other big-name free agents.

“All you Yankee fans that have been attacking Hal Steinbrenner, what have you got to say today? He got the job done,” Craig said. “That’s leadership, that’s ownership, and that deserves a tip of the cap from all you animals…who have attacked Hal Steinbrenner for not being that guy.”
