A caller joined Tiki and Tierney on Monday morning to lay out how poorly some Yankee hitters have been performing in comparison to their career norms, suggesting that, at some point, those veteran bats would break out.
But Tiki isn’t buying that argument, not at this point in their careers.
“Are they underperforming, or is this just who they’ve become?” Tiki said. “Of course Donaldson is going to underperform, because he’s 37 years old. Same with Stanton…he’s older, and constantly hurt.”
Donaldson and Stanton, along with Anthony Rizzo and DJ LeMahieu, are all struggling badly without Aaron Judge, leading one of the worst offenses in baseball since Judge landed on the IL. Tiki doesn’t see anybody but Judge turning that around, as the supporting cast is only going to continue to decline in their late 30s.
“I don’t like the back of the baseball card argument,” Tiki said. “They’re not gonna get there again. This is just who they are at this point in their careers.”
