The Yankees won in thrilling fashion on Saturday, riding a game-tying double off the bat of Isiah Kiner-Falefa and a walk-off single by Gleyber Torres to an exciting ninth-inning comeback in the Bronx.
Sadly, Yankee Stadium fans decided to ruin it.
Shortly after Torres’ pinch-hit single dropped between Guardians center fielder Myles Straw and right fielder Oscar Mercado, fans in right field began throwing debris onto the field, with empty beer cans falling near Cleveland players as the Yankees mobbed Torres in the infield.
The Bombers quickly stopped their celebration and headed to the outfield to try and stop the unruly fans from throwing more debris onto the field, as Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton pleaded with the fans to stop spoiling one of the team’s best wins of the season so far.
Yankee fans in the outfield were on the wrong side of the news last season as well, when a fan threw a ball back onto the field and hit Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo. They also threw baseballs onto the field almost exactly one year ago in a game against the Blue Jays.
"There's no place for throwing stuff on the field," Aaron Boone said after the game.
