The Yankees have added another former GM to the fold, this time announcing the addition of former Mets general manager Omar Minaya, who will serve as an advisor to the team’s baseball operations department.
Minaya is best known for his time as GM of the Mets, holding the role from 2004 to 2010. He quickly went to work upon being hired by signing Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran, and the following offseason, traded for Carlos Delgado and signed Billy Wagner, putting together a team that would come just one win shy of a World Series berth in 2006.

Minaya’s biggest splash during his first Mets tenure was trading for Johan Santana before the 2008 season. He also had his share of moves that didn’t pan out, like signing Jason Bay to a four-year deal.
Minaya had been back with the Mets since 2017 as a special assistant to the general manager and then an ambassador for the past three years.
The hiring by the Yankees is the second move this week that brings in a former GM, as the team added Brian Sabean as the team’s executive advisor to Brian Cashman on Tuesday.
