The Yankees got Luis Severino back on Monday, and they could have another starter-turned-reliever back later this week, and a third hurler back by sometime next week.
The former is Domingo German, who made his second rehab outing at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and walking two over two innings. German, who has missed nearly two months with shoulder inflammation, has pitched two innings in both of his rehab games, and could be back as a multi-inning weapon in the Yankees’ bullpen this week.

“He could be activated in the next day or two potentially,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday. “He threw Saturday, so that might make him eligible potentially tomorrow, but we’ll see where we at.”
The latter is Jameson Taillon, who was scheduled to throw a light side session on Monday and possibly do some PFP, Boone saying the team wants Taillon to “move around with the idea he’d do a rehab game on Wednesday, possibly.”
With the minor-league regular season over, that rehab appearance would either have to be with SWB (who begin a five-game set at home against Syracuse as part of the Triple-A Final Stretch on Wednesday) or Low-A Tampa, who would be playing Game 2 of the Low-A Southeast Championship Series in Bradenton.
The Yankees currently only have four starters active and eligible after both Luis Gil and Clarke Schmidt were optioned to Triple-A over the weekend, but with off days Thursday and next Monday, the Yankees don’t truly need a fifth starter until as late as next Thursday, by which time their fate in the Wild Card chase may be all but decided.

“We’ll see where we are after that and we’ll see where we can insert him,” Boone said.
The team is also hopeful that Jonathan Loaisiga, who began a throwing program last Friday, can throw a bullpen session sometime during the series in Boston this weekend and potentially return sometime in the final week.
