In another brutal Yankees injury blow, starting catcher Jose Trevino will miss the rest of the season with a torn TFCC ligament in his right wrist.
Ben Rortvedt was recalled from Triple-A to take Trevino's place.
Trevino, an All-Star in his debut season with the Yankees in 2022, has dropped off significantly at the plate this season, posting a .570 OPS in 55 games. He told reporters on Friday that he had been dealing with the injury since spring training, and thought he could play through it.
Aaron Boone told reporters over the weekend that Trevino was OK physically, but clearly, that is not the case, and the Yanks will be without one of the top defensive catchers in the league, and last year's Platinum Glove Award winner, for the rest of the year.
Trevino expects to be ready for spring training next season.
