Luis Gil was last with the Yankees last week in Chicago for a spot start, but now, the pitching prospect may not be back in the majors, or on any mound, for quite some time.
In his first start back with Triple-A Scranton since that spot start against the White Sox, Gil quickly motioned to the dugout after throwing a pitch at just 82 mph, immediately pointing to his elbow. He was removed from the game and while there has not been an update, the area that Gil pointed to did not make it look promising.
Gil, weeks away from turning 24, allowed four runs in four innings of work in his lone big-league start this season, and in six starts with the Yanks in 2021, pitched to a 3.07 ERA across 29.1 innings.
