The Yankees officially announced their trade with the Cardinals that brings Harrison Bader home to the Bronx and sends Jordan Montgomery to St. Louis, and Yankee fans can’t seem to figure out why the trade was made in the first place.

Bader certainly beefs up the Yankees’ outfield defense, but with Luis Severino on the IL and Jameson Taillon and Nestor Cortes’ innings totals for the season climbing higher and higher, the acquisition of Frankie Montas seemed like a solid addition to the rotation depth, but Brian Cashman and company quickly took away some of that depth by moving Montgomery.

Of course, there were other reasons for the trade, like the Yankees wanting to cut back on Aaron Judge’s reps in center field and preserve his health, but the outfield outlook seems crowded now with Bader (once he returns from the IL) joining Giancarlo Stanton (also working his way back from the IL), Judge, Aaron Hicks, and even Matt Carpenter, who will need at-bats in the postseason if he continues to swing the bat like he has since signing earlier in the season.

Needless to say, Yankee fans had plenty of questions about the trade:
