The Yankees have landed the biggest free agent of the offseason in Aaron Judge, but they could be making their way towards another big free agent splash.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Yanks have “opened talks” with the top remaining starting pitcher left on the market in Carlos Rodon, and a “formal offer” is expected to be made on Tuesday, if it wasn’t already made late Monday night.

Per Heyman, the Bombers are “serious” and “hopeful” when it comes to pursuing Rodon, who would form a formidable 1-2 punch alongside Gerrit Cole atop the Yankees rotation, one that would also include Nestor Cortes, an All-Star last season, and Luis Severino.

Heyman reports that Rodon would like to play on the east coast, though several teams are reportedly interested in signing Rodon to a multi-year deal.

Rodon was dominant for the Giants in 2022, posting a 2.88 ERA in 178 innings of work, the 30-year-old’s second straight All-Star season.
