Buffalo, NY (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for their annual matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs this coming Sunday, with kickoff set for 4:25 p.m.
The Bills returned to form last week, after dropping two straight games before the bye week, and were able to defeat the Carolina Panthers by 31 points. James Cook, named AFC offensive player of the week following the performance, tallied over 200 yards from scrimmage. McDermott spoke to Cook's success and work ethic.
"It really jumped last year and and then if you were at our practices... he was doing the same thing. I mean when he got the ball in his hands, he was going the distance each each rep. Of course, you know, you've got to get somebody else in there for the next rep. But what happened then in the game was a result of his habits and and the execution during during the week in practice."
The injury bug has been biting the Bills this season. McDermott confirmed that three players will be out for the game. Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, wide receiver Joshua Palmer, and linebacker Shaq Thompson all will miss the contest. Thompson was the surprise on the report earlier this week. McDermott says it has been a lingering issue.
"It kind of was lingering a little bit. I thought it would had gone away, and then it kind of resurfaced a little bit that the start of practice there. So it's kind of something that sounds like it didn't quite go away the way we thought it had."
McDermott also spoke on the recent history between the two franchises and the success they have both seen.
"We've both had a tremendous amount of success. And with that, we've played each other more than once each year over the last couple of years in particular. You do focus on one game at a time, though, like anything else, and you try and stay as consistent as you can be in your normal process. So it's an opportunity we're looking forward to. I know our fan base is as well, and we're looking forward to Sunday afternoon there."
