Bills first-round pick Max Hairston leaves field with leg injury

Trainers were looking at his right knee area

Pittsford, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Injuries have become a story for the Buffalo Bills through their first week of training camp at St. John Fisher University.

For the most part, it's mainly been the number of players out, as opposed to the severity of those injuries.

The team really hopes that's the case when it comes to their first-round pick, cornerback Max Hairston, who went down with, what appeared to be, a right leg injury Tuesday.

It was unclear what exactly happened to Hairston, as he was practicing with his positional group. While he was on the ground, he was tended to by head athletic trainer Nate Bresky, with several teammates looking on and talking to him.

Hairston is battling Tre'Davious White for the starting cornerback job opposite Christian Benford.

Just after Hairston went down, White was superb in a goal line 1-on-1 passing segment against wideouts.

First, White absolutely locked down Joshua Palmer. Bill quarterback Josh Allen tried to fit the ball into Palmer in the back of the end zone, but White picked it.

Then, the veteran White got his hands on second-year wideout Keon Coleman and kept him right at the goal line before reaching over to knock a ball away.

Later, Palmer got a bit of revenge against the defense when he beat Benford for a toe-tap catch as he was going out the back of the end zone. Coleman did the same with a great grab over Dane Jackson in the back corner for a touchdown.

Jackson came back to get the better of recently signed wideout Deon Cain.

More injury updates:

Both tight end Dalton Kincaid and wide receiver Elijah Moore returned to the field on Tuesday, but the overall list of injuries continued to grow. This includes offensive linemen Mike Edwards (heat related from Monday) and Alec Anderson (knee), wide receiver K.J. Hamler (heat related from Monday) and defensive tackle DeWayne Carter (illness).

Defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi was given a veteran rest day.

Up next:

The Bills will have a day off Wednesday before returning to the field at St. John Fisher on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. They'll hold the "Return of the Blue and Red" open practice back at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Friday from 5 p.m.-to-7 p.m.
