Pittsburgh, Pa. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills were able to get the ground game going on Sunday, running the ball over the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 26-7 win at Acrisure Stadium.
The Bills offense started with the football and it did not go according to plan. At the start, Josh Allen was able to complete a big third down to his new receiver Brandin Cooks. After that, the Bills were held to another third-and-long. This time the result was not the best as Allen was looking for Gabe Davis on a quick throw and it was intercepted.
Pittsburgh was unable to capitalize on the interception and the game remained scoreless for the remainder of the first. The Bills could not convert on third down and the Steelers were struggling to get going on offense. It was shaping up to be a defensive matchup.
The Bills offense continued their run of predictable plays and could not get out in front of the Steelers. Pittsburgh got their second takeaway of the night early in the second quarter in Buffalo territory as James Cook fumbled. They were able to take advantage of the field position as Aaron Rodgers set up Jaylen Warren for a 1-yard touchdown to take the lead.
After the touchdown, the Bills put together a 16 play drive. They ultimately were unable to score a touchdown. Allen converted multiple times on the ground himself to keep the drive alive, and stalled within the 10 yard line. Matt Prater successfully kicked a 27 yard field goal. Time ran out in the second quarter as the Bills trailed by four, Pittsburgh would receive the second half kickoff.
Buffalo's defense took the field and made a statement to start the second half. Joey Bosa forced a violent fumble from Rodgers and Christian Benford returned it for a touchdown to give the Bills the lead.
Benford made another huge play on the ensuing drive. Mason Rudolph replaced Rodgers following the fumble. After a penalty that saved the drive for Pittsburgh, Benford swooped in for an interception.
The Bills capitalized as the momentum seemed to have totally swung in their favor. The offense moved their way down the field and after a big run from Cook, Allen found Keon Coleman for short for a 1-yard touchdown.
It was a Buffalo heavy second half, as the Bills found the end-zone again. Josh Allen broke a record this time around, as if that was anything new, attaining the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in NFL History, passing Cam Newton and to extend the lead.
The defense was able to stop the Steelers once again, setting up the Bills offense to run the clock down, which they did. Prater kicked another field goal from 37-yards out to pile it on. Rudolph took over for Rodgers once again to finish the game after but was unable to score. The Bills would win 26-7 and advance to 8-4 on the season.
