Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN/WGR 550) - A week after Gov. Kathy Hochul was in town to commemorate the first steel beam set to go up at the construction site of the new Highmark Stadium along Abbott Road, crews officially hoisted and erected the beam into the construction pit on Friday.
Since June, crews had been working to excavate the construction site in Orchard Park to ready for the start of steel work right around this time in late January, early February.
Steel work at the new stadium site is expected to continue over the coming months. Stadium officials say the timeline for construction continues to remain on schedule leading up to opening before the start of the 2026 season.
