Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills have a long road ahead of them to make the playoffs coming out of their bye week. The journey begins on Sunday afternoon when they head to Kansas City to play their AFC rival Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Currently at 6-6 in the AFC standings, the Bills are on the outside looking in 11th place. However, the team still controls their own fate, in terms of how to make it to the playoffs. It might be as simple as the difficult task of winning all of their five remaining games on the schedule.

The Bills have had many impressive games against the Chiefs over the past few seasons, most of which being in consideration for "Game of the Year". Bills head coach Sean McDermott says this upcoming game will be just as tough as the rest.

"They've played well at times, maybe not as productive as people would expect them to, but when you look at games, they're in every game," said McDermott during his weekly appearance on the "Extra Point Show" on WGR. "Again, credit to Patrick Mahomes and coach [Andy] Reid and their ability to come back, even when they've fallen behind in the few games they have."

While the offense may be what the Chiefs are most known for, the defensive side of the ball this season has been very prominent in helping them win important games. McDermott says the Bills will be prepared for a difficult task.

"I think it was the [season opener] they didn't have Chris Jones. I think he's been a big factor, getting him back," McDermott said with Sal Capaccio and Joe DiBiase. "They've done a nice job. They play really hard, which, again, is a credit to a coach, in this case, coach 'Spags' [Steve Spagnuolo] and his staff. They've got good schemes, they pressure quite a bit in all different types of pressure."

In an article published Thursday by Tyler Dunne from GoLongTD.com, it detailed McDermott's tenure in Buffalo, but also referenced a team meeting during training camp in 2019 where the head coach made reference to the terrorists from the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001 regarding their teamwork.

McDermott further addressed this during his appearance Friday, confirming it as true, and the matter has been handled with his players.

"Listen, I missed the mark when I was trying to communicate in 2019. I quickly realized that that day, and gathered the team to make that clear, to make my point clear, and what I was trying to communicate," McDermott said. "Listen, I recognize I could have done a better job. Many players following that follow up meeting appreciated it. They thought it wasn't necessary because they understood. Then some players appreciated the clarity that I provided, because they know not only who I am, but also how I try and do things. Since that point in time, it has not been an issue to my knowledge.

"I feel very favorably. The response from the team following that meeting, even towards the end of that meeting, from the players, I could not have asked for anything more. They definitely show their support, and I appreciate that."
