Glenn told WROC-TV the main focus has been on restoring Hamlin's lung function following the shocking incident on the field Monday.

"He was on like 100% being assisted by the ventilator yesterday and he’s improved, I believe, up to 50%. So that’s definitely an upward trend," said Glenn on Tuesday.

Hamlin's uncle, Dorrian Glenn, told CNN and other outlets that Hamlin had to have his heart re-started twice — once on the field, and again after he arrived at the hospital.

Hamlin's official condition, as reported by the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday, remains critical, and Glenn's update is the first encouraging update offered by someone with immediate knowledge of Hamlin's medical status.

Glenn acknowledged the outpouring of prayer and support coming from around the world, and said the family is taking the recovery process "day-by-day."

"It just helps us to be able to deal with it," he said.
