OPINION: 2024 NFL Mock Draft

Who will the Bills select in Round 1 on Thursday night in Detroit?

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - We have one more day until the 2024 NFL Draft gets underway in Detroit, and why not throw my hat into the ring to see how Round 1 may play out?

More importantly, though, what direction will the Buffalo Bills turn with the 28th overall pick in Round 1?

There will be no trades with this mock draft due to the wildly unpredictable nature of them. Some teams may "reach" for someone they will probably trade back to get in real life, but overall, the idea will be the same.

Without further ado, here in my one and only mock draft for Thursday night's first round with the help of Pro Football Focus' Mock Draft Simulator:

28.) Buffalo Bills: Adonai Mitchell - Wide receiver - Texas

It would be more surprising if the Bills don’t go wide receiver in Round 1, especially if the Bills would be taking the fifth guy off the board.

Mitchell absolutely has flaws and red flags with his game, but I see the Bills being comfortable with those flaws due to their belief they can iron those out by bringing a guy into their building and their culture.

Mitchell will come into a wide receivers room that desperately needs help out on the boundary. His 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame and 4.3 speed will add elements the Bills really haven’t given quarterback Josh Allen in his career: Size and speed.

The 21-year-old would also be the perfect complement to the group of wide receivers already in Buffalo with Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir and even tight end Dalton Kinciad being more "slot" options. Mitchell could draw defensive backs back in coverage with his clear explosiveness and potential game-breaking speed that teams have to account for.

Mitchell’s teammate at the University of Texas, Xavier Worthy would also work here, but his lack of size and potential limit as a true boundary wideout in the NFL could scare off a team like the Bills, who have a clear need even with Worthy posting the fastest 40-yard dash ever recorded at this year's NFL Combine.
