East Rutherford, N.J. (WGR 550) - It was a rough opening performance from the Buffalo Bills offense on Monday night, as quarterback Josh Allen turned the football over four times in a 22-16 overtime loss to the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

After a first half where the Bills only gave up three points with Aaron Rodgers leaving the game early for New York due to an Achilles injury, the wheels started to come off in the second half with the point of emphasis from head coach Sean McDermott being the turnovers.

"You're playing two opponents: The one on the other sideline and yourself. That's what we did tonight," said McDermott on Monday night following the loss.

"Go across the league, tell me who lost the turnover battle and won. In this case, we lost, 4-1."

The defense was able to hold the Jets in check for a majority of the game, only giving up 16 points and even forcing an interception of quarterback Zach Wilson. The Bills also held the Jets to less than 300 yards of total offense.

However, it was Allen struggling by throwing three interceptions - two of which in the second half - as well as losing a fumble that lead to the Jets' go-ahead field goal with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Despite the turnovers, McDermott knows Allen is capable of being smarter with his overall play.

"I know he's capable of playing better," McDermott said with the media after the game. "He's capable of playing smarter as well, No. 1, stay healthy, and No. 2, to take care of the football."
