Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - For the second time this season, a key special teamer for the Buffalo Bills has earned a monthly honor from the NFL.

Bills punter Sam Martin has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for his performance in December and into the final week of the season in January.

In the final five weeks of the 2023 season, Martin led the AFC in percentage of punts inside the 20-yard line (64.75%), 10-yard line (29.4%) and five-yard line (11.8%).

Martin also was a huge factor in flipping the field, with opponents' average drive starts after punts being at their own 19.1 yard line, which also led the AFC.

All of this contributed to the Bills winning out the final five games of the regular season to not only punch their ticket to the playoffs, but also a fourth-straight AFC East title.

This marks the first time in franchise history where both kicking specialists have been honored as AFC Player of the Month in the same season. Bills kicker Tyler Bass received the honor back in the month of September.

It is also the first time in Martin's 11-year career in the NFL where he's been honored as the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month. He had won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week three times previously in his career.

Martin is also the first Bills punter to earn this honor from the NFL since Brian Moorman did so in November of 2006.
