Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – The Buffalo Sabres got their last restricted free agent signed, as goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen inked a two-year, $1.675 million contract on Wednesday.
I’ve been told that they compromised making it a one-way deal in the second year, meaning Luukkonen would no longer be waivers exempt for the 2023-24 season.
Luukkonen was a second-round pick by the Sabres in the 2017 NHL Draft. The 23-year-old has played 13 NHL games, going 3-8-2 with a 3.08 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.

The goaltender has spent 60 games in the American Hockey League with the Rochester Americans, posting a 26-23-11 record with a 3.31 goals-against average and an .894 save percentage. In 23 games in the ECHL with the Cincinnati Cyclones, Luukkonen posted a 12-7-3 record with a 2.24 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage.

Luukkonen doesn’t appear to be going to be given a chance to start the season in the NHL, because Buffalo has re-signed Craig Anderson and added Eric Comrie in free agency.
