Sabres trade rights to goaltender Erik Portillo to Kings for third-round pick

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – Ahead of Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline, the Buffalo Sabres have announced their second trade made this week.

The Sabres have traded the rights of prospect goaltender Erik Portillo to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a 2023 third-round pick.

Portillo was a former third-round pick (67th overall) of the Sabres back in the 2019 NHL Draft and has been playing at the University of Michigan for the last three seasons.

This season for the Wolverines, Portillo has posted a 3.01 goals-against average and .908 save percentage with a 19-10-2 record. He was also named a B1G Second-Team All-Star last season when he posted a 31-10-1 record with a 2.14 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage.

The trade deadline is this Friday, March 3 at 3 p.m. EST.
