Newark, N.J. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The winning streak is up to six games for the Buffalo Sabres.
Visiting the Devils on Sunday night, the Sabres scored three unanswered goals to upend New Jersey, 3-1, at the Prudential Center in Newark.
About nine minutes into the first period, New Jersey opened the scoring.
Devils forward Jack Hughes, who had been out of the lineup since mid-November, scored in his return to put the home side up 1-0.
Early in the second period, the Sabres tied the game up at 1-1.
Directly after an offensive-zone faceoff win, captain Rasmus Dahlin got a puck on net from the left-wing circle. Josh Norris then jammed the puck home for his fourth goal of the season.
Later in the middle stanza, Buffalo took its first lead of the night.
Zach Benson beared down on Devils goalie Jake Allen, all while staring down linemate Jack Quinn on a 2-on-1 rush. Benson used his eyes to fool Allen, as the Sabres winger shot the puck in-close and beat Allen through the five-hole to give Buffalo a 2-1 lead.
In the third period, it was all Devils, just not on the scoreboard. New Jersey brought the heat consistently against Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and company, but the Sabres weathered the storm in an impressive way.
Finally, with two minutes to play in regulation, Buffalo got some much-deserved breathing room.
Peyton Krebs was able to outskate a Devils defender to a cleared puck, and deposited his first goal of the 2025-26 season into an empty-net to give the Sabres a 3-1 lead.
Luukkonen was strong in net, especially hunkering down in the third period, making 26 saves on 27 shots faced in the victory.
