HANOVER TOWNSHIP, PA — Hanover Township is set to become the site of a new, state-of-the-art Amazon last-mile distribution center. The 250,000-square-foot facility will be constructed on a 125-acre tract of land on Dziak Drive, a site previously owned by Earth Conservancy and consisting of abandoned coal lands.
Hanover Township Manager Sam Guesto confirmed the plans, stating that site work and excavation are expected to begin the last week of October. According to Luzerne County records, the seven-parcel site was recently purchased by Amazon from NorthPoint Development for $24.75 million, with the deed being recorded on September 26.
This new facility, which specializes in the final stage of the delivery process to customers' homes, is projected to create a significant number of local jobs. Guesto noted that the center will provide approximately 150 to 200 in-house jobs, in addition to utilizing contracted drivers for deliveries.
