ARCHBALD, PA — Residents of Archbald Borough gathered in protest last night ahead of a borough council meeting, chanting shoulder-to-shoulder to voice their concerns over the potential impact of data centers on their community.
The borough building was filled to capacity as residents urged the council to address the issue of data center development through zoning amendments. During the meeting, resident Justin Healey called on the council to demonstrate transparency and actively collaborate with a zoning amendment that the community has already drafted.
Council Response on Ordinance Process
Archbald Council President Dave Moran responded to the community's demands, explaining that the current ordinance process is lengthy and rigidly structured. He stated that if any changes are made to the pending ordinance, the entire process would have to restart.
Moran outlined the mandatory steps for drafting and approving an ordinance:
The drafted ordinance must be submitted to the Archbald Planning Commission.
It must also go to the Lackawanna County Regional Planning Commission.
Both planning commissions are allotted 30 days to provide their input back to the borough council.
