FedEx has announced it will shutter its ship center at 1000 Sathers Drive in Pittston Township this spring, affecting 63 local employees. The company is expected to file a formal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) with the state today, February 27, though officials noted that team members were briefed on the decision several months ago. The closure is scheduled for early May, and FedEx expects to offer many of the impacted workers alternative roles at other locations within the company.

The move is part of a massive, multi-year overhaul known as "Network 2.0," which aims to consolidate the company’s historically separate Express and Ground operations into a single, unified delivery system. By merging these networks, FedEx intends to eliminate overlapping routes—ending the practice of having two separate trucks visit the same neighborhood—and save an estimated $2 billion by 2027. Customers who currently use the Pittston Township site for package drop-offs are being directed to the FedEx Office located at 940 Schechter Drive in Wilkes-Barre Township once the Sathers Drive facility officially closes.
